See this beautiful present? I wonder what's inside. It's pretty fancy with this paper and big, bright bow. Let's pretend this is a gift from God. What might be inside? (see what the children think) There are all kinds of gifts from God: life, love, happiness, joy, food, friends, toys, nature -- the Bible tells us about all kinds of gifts God has given us. Can anyone remember the gifts mentioned in today's scripture reading? (let them guess)

In today's reading we learn that God has given us a spirit of power, love and self-discipline. What does that mean? Power means that we can be strong. Love -- I think you know what that means. Self-discipline means that we know how to say "yes" to the right things and "no" to the wrong things.

I also think this verse is reminding us that God helps us overcome problems in our way. We can be strong and get through our troubles. Nothing can...
