There was much excitement on the first night of Vacation Bible School as parents eagerly registered their children at the door. Some of the children could hardly wait, while others were less than enthusiastic about participating. Nine-year-old Kyle was a hold out. He stood on the grass ten feet from the registration table, arms folded across his chest. He did not want and would not attend Bible School, he told his mother in no uncertain terms. He stood there by himself frowning. When the pastor tried to encourage him, he replied that he did not like anything about Vacation Bible School and in particular he hated singing. As Vacation Bible School began Kyle was still standing in the grass outside, refusing to participate. Disappointed his mother eventually took him home.

We smile at this all too familiar story partly because we have all dealt with this situation at one time or another. Maybe we recognize ourselves at one point not wanting...
